How to Dispute a Charge on Walmart MoneyCard

If you have noticed suspicious transactions on your Walmart MoneyCard account or you are a victim of fraud, there are steps you need to take right away.

Taking the steps outlined below will increase your chance of a successful resolution of your issue and help you get your money back into your account.

See our post on the top complaints about the Walmart MoneyCard.

Do This Before You Call Customer Service

Before you call Walmart MoneyCard Customer Service, make sure the transaction you are disputing is indeed unauthorized.

Make sure you did not make that purchase. Here is how to find out:

Investigate Merchant Name and Location

First, investigate the merchant name and location to be sure that this is not a transaction you actually made that is showing up differently on your account.

Merchant names or locations for transactions may not look familiar. Many merchants use their corporate or headquarters information instead of the particular store where you made the purchase.

Be Sure About Transaction Status

Second, there may also be a delay in the posted date of the transaction.

This means that a transaction you may have completed days or weeks ago may finally be posting to your account.

These are normal business practices. If the amount and date of the purchase are accurate, that may show that it was a purchase you actually made.

If you are not sure about whether you made a particular purchase or not, you can request a written history of your transactions at any time by writing to Walmart MoneyCard at:

Written History Request
P.O. Box 1187
Monrovia, California 91017

You may also call customer service to request a written transaction history at 1-(877)937-4098.

How to Dispute a Transaction

If you are still convinced that a transaction on your account was not authorized, follow the steps below to dispute your transaction with the Walmart MoneyCard Dispute Resolution Department.

Step 1 – Call Customer Service

The first step is to call Walmart MoneyCard Customer service as soon as you see a charge you did not authorize or you believe you’ve been a victim of fraud.

Here is what you will need to provide when you call:

  • Your name and MoneyCard Account number.
  • Description of the transaction you are unsure about, and an explanation of why you believe it is in error or why you need more information.
  • The dollar amount and the date of the transaction you are disputing.

You can call MoneyCard Service at 877-937-4098, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You have 60 days to report an error to Walmart after the earlier of :

(i) the date you electronically logged into your account and could access your transactions to see the transaction error; or

(ii) the date Walmart sent you the FIRST written history on which the error appeared.

Step 2 – Complete Dispute Form

Calling customer service is an important first step, but there is more to do in order to properly submit your dispute.

Next, you may be required by customer service to fill out a formal dispute by completing the dispute resolution form.

If Walmart MoneyCard Customer Service asks you to send your request in writing or complete a dispute form, you have 10 business days to submit the request from the date of your call.

If they ask you to submit your complaint or questions in writing and they do not receive it within 10 business days, here’s what that could me.

You may forfeit any opportunity to get a provisional credit to your card while they investigate your claim.

Step 3 – What Happens Next

Once your dispute is submitted successfully (meaning you have provided all the requested information and supporting documentation), here is what happens next:

MoneyCard Dispute Department will Investigate

Walmart MoneyCard’s dispute resolution Department will investigate your claim.

They will determine whether an error occurred within 10 business days after you submit your form. During this time, there will be no credit to your account.

If they find that your dispute is valid, they will make corrections promptly.

When a Temporary Credit is Applied

Sometimes, they may need more time to complete their investigation, up to 45 days

Should they need more time to look into your dispute, they will credit your card within 10 business days for the amount you think is in error.

This means that you will have the money during the time it takes for them to complete their investigation.

As soon as the investigation is completed, they will let you know the results within three business days.

If they found that there was no error, they will send you a written explanation.

Walmart MoneyCard Dispute Timeline

One of the biggest issues cardholders face is not paying attention to dispute timelines when filing their dispute.

This results in their dispute being rejected for not being completed within the required timeline stated in the Cardholder Agreement

We are therefore providing a quick reference guide below regarding the timeline you should pay attention to when filing your Walmart MoneyCard Dispute.

You have 60 days to report an error to Walmart as soon as you find out.

They have to have received your dispute form within 10 business days for it to be valid.

Once they receive your dispute form, Walmart will get back to you within 10 days (Note that during the initial 10 day period, there will be no credit to your account).

When they contact you within 10 days, they will provide you with one of the following:

  1. They found that your dispute is valid, and will make corrections promptly.
  2. They may need more time to complete their investigation, up to 45 days

No live support

I was given a text message of a purchase i made online, and it seemed higher then i thought it should be. I felt like i might have been scammed, so wanted to put a stop payment on the charge (as it is still pending). I had no one to talk to when i called support to help me along on this, and the automated system just told me to write in about it, so basically i have no way to stop a suspect payment before it completes?!

Frauds

I had transactions that i didnt make which were still pendinng. They informed me to let the transactions go through before i could dispute them, which i did. However after i disputed all claims, walmart money card denied my claims, which shows me they never did a proper investigation. I have been with them for 5 yrs and never had a problem up until now and now they want refund my money thats over $600. I will advise no one to ever use these guys again because they have no loyalty to there customers.

Have gotten nowhere

I have called the dispute line numerous times and gotten tranferred only to be put on hold for at least 45 min. I have even been put on hold for an hr. I have tried reaching resolving this at least 6-7 times by calling. Got hung up on once and even a lady said she could help me get it taken care of. But nothing was ever filed. I am frustrated beyond words. How does one get a disoute taken care of?
